There are 1.65 million home invasions per year in the US.
2019 was the only year that the FBI reported how many home invasions happened in a year.
Every other report the FBI publishes only talks about burglary, which is not a home invasion.
- Home Invasion: It means entering a home without permission. The aim is to harm or commit crimes against those inside. Attackers might assault or rob the residents.
- Burglary: It’s a crime targeting property. The goal is theft. Burglars typically avoid meeting residents. However, confrontations can happen if the burglar is caught off guard.
