Why The Hive Law Exists

Most estate planning firms hand over a set of documents and consider the job done. But a signed trust that has never been funded does not protect your family. Accounts still in your own name go through probate. Property that was never retitled goes through probate. The document may be legally valid, but a document alone is not a plan.

We have watched this play out in our own family. Shawn’s great-grandfather owned 300 acres that had been in the family for generations. He remarried late in life, left the land to his new wife, and the family lost it entirely. A great-uncle put his daughter’s homes into a trust before she married. When she went through a divorce years later, those homes could not be touched. Same family. Completely different outcomes. The difference was whether the plan was built correctly and funded completely.

Shawn’s grandfather built a trust specifically to avoid probate, then forgot to update a beneficiary designation on one life insurance policy. His grandmother still had to probate the estate. His grandmother later developed dementia. She had refused to do any planning while she was well, and the family had to go through guardianship and conservatorship court just to care for her. Three separate situations. Three families left dealing with courts, fees, and losses that were entirely avoidable. That is what The Hive Law was built to prevent.

About Us - Melissa - The Hive Law
Melissa and our daughter, who has personally named every animal on the property and considers them all her responsibility. Current residents include Snakey, Sprinkle, and Booger.

Like most parents, we are always thinking about our children and how to make life easier for them down the road. The last thing we would ever want is confusion or chaos for our boys. Melissa was wonderful to work with from start to finish. She is knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely cares about the families she serves.

Meet Melissa Breyer

Melissa Breyer is a Georgia estate planning attorney. She personally designs every estate plan The Hive Law builds. She does not pass work to associates or junior staff. Every client works directly with Melissa from the Family Protection Audit through the signed trust.

Melissa graduated from John Marshall Law School in Atlanta and has nine years of experience in estate planning. She works exclusively on trust-based estate plans and LLC formation. That focus means the attorney handling your plan has spent her entire career doing this specific work, not rotating through practice areas.

Melissa reviews your assets, your family situation, and your goals before recommending anything. She walks through every option with you, explains the tradeoffs of each, and lets you decide what is right for your family. If a trust is not the right fit for where you are right now, she will tell you that directly. No one here is going to talk you into something you do not need.

Our experience with The Hive Law has been excellent. Shawn and Melissa have been professional, responsive, and thorough, and the virtual process worked surprisingly well. Everything was clearly explained, and we feel confident in the plan we put in place.

Meet Shawn Breyer

Shawn Breyer is the founder of The Hive Law. Before starting the firm, he worked as a project mechanical engineer, designing robotic assembly lines and installing antenna measurement systems for military equipment around the world. That career was built around one standard: the system either works correctly every time, or it fails when it matters most.

He brought that same standard to how The Hive Law operates. Every part of the process, from the Family Protection Audit to the Funding Checkup, is built to function as a complete system. Nothing is handed off. Nothing falls through the cracks. Shawn handles every first conversation with a new client, walks them through the process, and answers every question before the legal work begins.

You may know Shawn from social media. He creates content from home on their small farm, covering estate planning topics in plain language for an audience of over 121,000 followers across TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook. The farm is home to sheep, goats, chickens, geese, and rabbits, and has been a fixer-upper project since they bought it. Their five-year-old daughter has named most of the animals and regularly carries the chickens around the property as if it were a full-time job. Their two-year-old son’s single greatest ambition in life is to ride the tractor, which he requests every day without exception. A third child is on the way later this year. Estate planning is personal work. For Shawn and Melissa, it starts at home.

How We Work

The Hive Law is a husband and wife firm. Shawn handles the first call and runs operations. Melissa designs and builds every estate plan. Every client works with the same two people from the first meeting to the final signature. Nothing is handed off to a junior associate. Nothing is templated without being reviewed line by line.

We work with a limited number of families each week. Every part of our process is documented, every step is timed, and every plan is checked before it is delivered. That is why the Family Protection Audit exists: to see whether we are the right fit for your family before anyone commits to anything.

Who We Serve

The Hive Law serves Georgia families. We work with clients across Fulton, Cobb, Gwinnett, Forsyth, Cherokee, Hall, and every surrounding county. Most of our clients meet with us virtually. We designed the process so you never have to drive downtown, pay for parking, or take a day off work to build a plan.

We are not the right firm for every family. We are the right firm for Georgia households that want careful, thorough work from a husband and wife team who take the responsibility personally.
